" Latin Women in Action", launches a voter registration campaign in Queens, on the steps of City Hall with the aim of encouraging the 2008 presidential candidates to include domestic violence and child abuse prevention as part of their platform.
Latin Women in Action, Inc. is a comprehensive community based social service agency, founded and incorporated in 1990 by a group of Latina Women. Its mission and goals are to provide essential services to Hispanic women and their families within New York State.
Latin Women in Action, Inc. (also referred to as "LWA") is committed to leadership, self-sufficiency, good citizenship, organizing, advocacy and development and empowerment of the Latino families. The agency does not discriminate on the basis of the individual s race, language, sexual orientation, and physical impediments.
LWA came about because of the lack of leadership, political representation, organizing and advocacy forces in the borough of Queens. Latin Women s challenge is to reach its goals by providing needed services and representation.
Our activities are geared to educate the community in the areas of immigration, family violence which include domestic violence and child abuse prevention. As important is the acquisition of political empowerment through education of new citizen and voters, including conducting citizenship organizing, voter turn out, provision of direct services to new immigrants and addressing Hispanic issues of importance such as, health, employment, leadership and the full gamut of needed services.
