Latin Women in Action, Inc. is a comprehensive community based
social service agency, founded and incorporated in 1990 by and for
Latina Women. Its mission and goal are to provide essential services
to Hispanic women and their families within New York State.
Latin Women in Action is committed to leadership, self-sufficiency,
good citizenship, organizing, advocacy and development and empowerment
of Latina women and their families. The agency does not discriminate
on the basis of the individual's race, language, sexual orientation,
and physical impediments.
Latin Women in Action, Inc. came about because of the lack of leadership, political representation, organizing and advocacy forces in the borough of Queens. Latin Women's challenge is to reach its goals by holding conferences, organizing around local community board's representation, hospital boards and school board elections.
We will pursue activities to educate the community in the acquisition of political empowerment through education of new citizen and voters, including conducting citizenship organizing, voter turn out, provision of direct services to new immigrants and addressing women's issues of importance such as education, health, leadership and the full gamut of needed services.
